Dr. David Walters
My Personal Weight Loss Journey
TodayI am 57 years old, my body fat is 8% and I weigh 175 lbs.I have easily maintained my body fat and weight at these levels for the past 4 years without the need to diet or exercise.I am healthier than I have ever been.
But it wasn’t always this way.
In my late 30′s I began accumulating excess fat, primarily around my belly.I was eating way too much fast food and junk food.I felt bloated, lethargic and barely had enough energy to make it through the day.I was 40 lbs above my high school weight of 165 lbs and I felt terrible. The turning point for me occurred in late December, 1992 when I saw a picture of myself that was taken at Christmas.I was shocked–I did not even recognize myself.I was done with being fat and made the decision to do something about it.
I began an intensive exercise program and cleaned up my diet. After trying several diets I settled on one that really seemed to work for me–the Atkins diet. Thus began my 15-year love-hate relationship with the Atkins way of eating. Why do I say love-hate?Because I loved that I was able to maintain my weight at close to my old high school weight, but I hated that if I ate just a few too many carbs I would immediately begin accumulating fat on my belly.
I had a similar love-hate relationship with exercise, because if I did not exercise at least 6 days each week the fat would begin accumulating as well.I felt I was in a diet-exercise prison.I was forced to eat an unhealthy diet and to constantly exercise just to maintain my weight. And worse of all, I could never get the last 10 lbs of fat off my waist–the dreaded love handles–no matter how severe I reduced my caloric intake or how much I increased my exercise. This all changed in 2007 when I tried Dr. Simeons’ hCG diet. That program released me from the diet-exercise prison for good.
After just one round on the hCG diet I was able to rid myself of the dreaded love handles forever and achieve my ideal body fat percentage.I am now able to eat a very healthy diet–with more complex carbs than the Atkins’ diet ever allowed–with no calorie restriction and maintain my ideal weight without the need for exercise.I proved this to myself when upon completion of the hCG diet I did not do any exercise for 4 straight weeks. My weight stayed exactly where I ended on the hCG program without the need to do any exercise.I truly was no longer a prisoner of diet and exercise.
Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying.I resumed my exercise program to insure that I am healthy and fit–but not to control my weight.I also eat a very healthy diet that consists of lean protein, lots of veggies and moderate amounts of fruit, nuts, cheese and eggs and limited amounts of refined carbohydrates derived from grain.I can say, without reservation, that the hCG weight loss program has transformed and rejuvenated my body and life beyond my wildest dreams. It is certainly the greatest gift I could have ever given myself–the gift of health.
